Business Manager, Finance

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Manager, Finance is responsible for collecting, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting accurate financial information as it relates to the Retention and Call Centre business units, thus enabling the effective evaluation of business performance and decision-making in the areas of subscriber metrics and P&L. This position will act as a liaison between functional areas of the business and the Finance department. To this end, this position will have additional responsibilities related to analytics and data mining.

JOB DETAILS

Accountabilities

Planning:

• Responsible for financial planning, analysis forecasting and reporting based on company performance, market conditions, competitive activities and growth opportunities pertinent to the Retention and Call Centre business units
• Provide financial support in analysis, recommendation and implementation of solutions and improvements for subscriber retention metrics
• Continuously drive process improvements for greater efficiency, transparency, and overall effectiveness in driving better business decisions
• Assist in preparing Annual Operating Plan and multi-year strategic plan for the development of subscriber metric targets and operating expenses under tight timelines
• Provide departments with guidelines and assumptions to develop budgets and forecasts
• Prepare variance analysis of actuals against budget and forecasts related to rate plans/subscriber tenure/upgrades and downgrades
• Assist in building of detailed planning templates and strategic plans
• Assist in monthly rolling forecast at the beginning of month, allowing for time-sensitive analysis and decision-making

Reporting:

• Deliver actuals reporting to channels and finance team, including tracking on key metrics in relation to month-end finance activities
• Develop dashboards, reports, and provide recommendations, enabling effective evaluation of business performance and decision-making in areas of subscriber retention
• Prepare standard and ad hoc reports and presentations for monthly management meetings, period analysis and forecast/reforecast preparation

Modeling:

• Develop, implement and use tools for managing and analyzing business performance
• Create and maintain complex multi-year models and monitor metrics to continuously improve upon forecasting of business performance
• Provide business case analyses on new marketing initiatives

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Level of Education

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration or economics
• Recognized accounting designation preferred (CPA or equivalent)

Job Related Experience

• Minimum 4+ years of relevant experience
• Proficiency in analysis and data mining using SQL (mandatory)

Skills and Background

• Ability to create and maintain complex, multi-year, financial models and perform variance analysis
• Familiarity with subscriber-based business
• Experience working with and presenting to senior management
• Advanced-level skills in Microsoft Excel
• Basic SQL Querying knowledge
• Ability to work within a dynamic fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards
