Skill Matrix

A skill matrix, which is also known as a competency matrix or skills inventory, assesses and portrays the level of skills, competencies, and proficiency of people in the company. It often has a rows and columns structure where the employees are in the rows and the specific skills or competencies required for their positions are in the columns. Skilled matrix refers to the skills gaps, efficiency of resources, designing of training programs, and possible decision making for workforce development and succession planning.

Example of Skill Matrix

An operating manufacturing company introduces a skill matrix to assess the competencies of its production technicians across various technical skill sets and certifications for their roles. The matrix incorporates parts like machine operation, quality assurance, safety procedures, and problem-solving skills. The skills proficiency level is evaluated for each employee in each skill domain rating from novice to expert. The skill matrix enables the organization to identify the skills gaps and required training, ensures correct staffing for different roles and stimulates continuous learning and development of the employees.
