Vestibule Training
Vestibule training, or commonly called mimic training, is training employees using a simulated environment, which closely matches their actual job duties and responsibilities. In contrast to traditional classroom training or on-the-job training, vestibule training ensures that employees learn skills and tasks through a simulated setting before transitioning to their normal roles. The experiential training method gives an employee the opportunity to become more confident, experienced and conversant on the job description, equipment and system usage, helping to ensure a smoother induction process and better performance outcomes.
Example of Vestibule Training
A retail chain designs vestibule training for novices in the customer service sector. Prior to meeting real customers in the sales area, workers undergo simulated scenarios in a training area which is dedicated for the purpose and designed to resemble a retail environment. They will be trained in resolving normal customer complaints, using point-of-sale systems, and dealing with problems like product returns or complaints. The trainers monitor and provide necessary feedback and guidance on how to deal with various situations as employees polish their skills and gain the confidence they need in order to offer outstanding customer service. The retail chain ensures that its new hires are ready for the position from the first day by including vestibule training in its onboarding process. This in turn will have a positive impact on the customer experience and therefore contribute to the company's sales performance.
