X-Ray Technician Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Perform X-ray examinations on patients to create diagnostic images
• Position patients and adjust equipment to ensure clear and accurate images
• Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare staff to interpret imaging needs
• Maintain and calibrate X-ray equipment to ensure safety and functionality
• Follow radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self
• Document procedures and patient information in electronic health records
• Educate patients on procedures and ensure their comfort during exams
• Stay updated on imaging techniques, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
• Align imaging services with patient care and departmental objectives

X-Ray Technician Qualifications and Skills

• Strong technical and imaging abilities
• Solid knowledge of anatomy, radiology, and radiation safety
• Excellent proficiency with X-ray equipment and imaging software
• Experience in radiographic imaging or related healthcare roles
• Ability to work with diverse patients and maintain professionalism
• Strong communication and patient care skills
• Detail-oriented and safety-conscious approach

Education and Experience Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program
• 1+ years of experience as an X-ray technician or in a similar imaging role preferred
• Valid certification (e.g., ARRT) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
• State licensure where required; certifications in specialized imaging (e.g., CT, mammography) are a plus
