It depends on how often you hire for similar roles, not just the size of your database. A small database with frequent repeat hiring gets measurable value from rediscovery. A tiny database with rare, one-off roles may not need it yet.

The value of candidate rediscovery comes from checking past applicants against new openings automatically. Even a database of a few hundred candidates holds value if you hire for similar positions more than once. A founder who fills a support role every quarter, for example, benefits from scanning that same pool each time a new opening appears, instead of starting fresh.

If your database only has a handful of candidates and you rarely reopen the same type of role, manual review might cover your needs. You can scan 30 or 40 resumes by eye faster than setting up automated matching.

The calculation changes once you cross a few hundred candidates or start hiring repeatedly for similar roles. At that point, manually remembering who applied for what becomes unreliable, and automated matching starts paying for itself in time saved alone.
