About the Role

We’re seeking a highly skilled Medical Examiner to investigate deaths and provide critical insights into public health and safety. As the bridge between forensic science and justice, you’ll conduct autopsies and determine causes of death with precision. This role requires expertise, objectivity, and a commitment to serving the community.

Medical Examiner Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Perform autopsies and external examinations to determine cause and manner of death
• Collect and analyze medical histories, toxicology reports, and other evidence
• Collaborate with law enforcement, pathologists, and legal authorities on investigations
• Prepare detailed reports and testify in court as an expert witness
• Ensure compliance with forensic protocols and legal standards
• Maintain accurate records and manage case documentation
• Stay updated on forensic pathology, medical advancements, and regulatory changes
• Align investigations with public health and safety objectives
• Communicate findings clearly to families, officials, and stakeholders

Medical Examiner Qualifications and Skills

• Exceptional forensic and analytical abilities
• Deep expertise in pathology, anatomy, and forensic science
• Excellent proficiency in autopsy procedures and evidence analysis
• Experience in forensic pathology or medical examination
• Ability to handle sensitive cases with professionalism and discretion
• Strong communication and expert testimony skills
• Detail-oriented and objective approach

Education and Experience Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution required
• Completion of a residency in pathology and a fellowship in forensic pathology
• 2+ years of experience as a medical examiner or forensic pathologist preferred
• Board certification in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology
• Valid state medical license; additional certifications (e.g., ABP Anatomic Pathology) are a plus
